K. N. Krishnaswamy is a consultant and former professor at the Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He has nearly three decades of teaching and research experience in management. Before joining the faculty at IISc, he was a manager at the Directorate General of Ordnance Factories, Ministry of Defence, Government of India, for over six years. He has a BE in electrical engineering from Mysore University and an ME in aeronautics and a Ph.D. in management, both from IISc. He has authored over 100 research papers on management science and three books. His research interests are production/operations management, industrial engineering, research methods, operations research/decision support systems/expert systems applications in operations management, R&D and technology management.
Appa Iyer Sivakumar is Associate Professor at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and a fellow of the Singapore–Massachusetts Institute of Technology Alliance (SMA). He was also associated with the Gintic Institute of Manufacturing Technology, Singapore. His research interests include operations research, manufacturing systems, logistics, supply chain, simulation, scheduling, and research methodology. He has several years of industrial and research experience in the UK. He held various management positions, including technical manager and project manager, for nine years at Lucas Systems and Engineering and Lucas Automotive, UK. During this period he was responsible for manufacturing re-engineering projects and was involved in the introduction of IT systems. He received a BE degree and a Ph.D. in manufacturing systems engineering from the University of Bradford, UK. He has presented several papers at international conferences and his articles have appeared in various journals. He has also trained and supervised a number of Ph.D. students. He was the technical chair and co-editor of the proceedings of the 3rd and 4th International Conferences on Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Singapore.
M. Mathirajan is Principal Research Scientist at the Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He received his M.Sc. degree in mathematics from Madurai Kamaraj University and a postgraduate diploma in operations research from Anna University. He received another M.Sc. (engineering) degree in applied operations research and a Ph.D. in operations management from IISc. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Singapore–Massachusetts Institute of Technology Alliance at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He was also a visiting consultant at Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. He was selected to present a paper in the 1999 Fall Annual Conference of the Operational Research Society of Japan in Tokyo. His Ph.D. thesis was adjudged the best thesis and was awarded the M. N. Gopalan Award of 2002 at the annual convention of the Operational Research Society of India. His research interests include mathematical modelling and heuristic methods for production planning and scheduling, personnel scheduling, routing and scheduling in logistics, container terminal logistics, distribution in supply-chain management and research methods. He has published over 25 research articles in both national and international journals and also presented over 30 research papers, both at national and international conferences. He is the co-author of two books and a monograph. He has guided a number of research students at the management studies department in IISc.
